Scottish Arts Council supports multicultural festival

The Edinburgh Mela, a festival which celebrates arts from beyond European traditions, took place on August 29-30 with funding assistance from the Scottish Arts Council. ‘The Mela is a fantastic celebration of the unfolding cultural tapestry which makes up modern Scotland,’ said Jim Tough, Head of Arts for the Scottish Arts Council. ‘The festival showcases the best of this new cultural landscape and I am delighted that the Scottish Arts Council is able to support their endeavours.’ The festival featured performances by UK, Asian and Indian performers, a multicultural fashion show, exhibitions and much more. The Scottish Arts Council also supports Mela through its year-round arts program, which has so far included workshops in DJing, street dancing, drama and Chinese percussion, as well as clothing design, mask and set decoration in preparation for the festival.
