The Swiss comics scene may not be large, but it enjoys an excellent reputation. To nurture the scene’s significant potential in a targeted manner, Pro Helvetia initiated a pilot project for the funding of comics production in 2020.
Today sees the launch of the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia’s first series of podcasts at the intersection of art, science and technology. Each of the seven episodes, titled « Art meets… », features an encounter between an artist and a scientist and covers topics such as astronomy, biohacking and robotics. Produced in English and intended for a broad audience, the « Art meets… » podcast is available on most platforms.
Pro Helvetia is launching its first podcast series as part of its « Art, Science and Technology » focus: each of the seven episodes addresses a specific theme and features an artist and a researcher who have worked together. The conversations consider the joys and challenges of transdisciplinary collaboration. Produced in English, the series has a global scope, both in terms of its speakers, who come from Pro Helvetia’s international network, and in terms of its audience.
Women are significantly under-represented in the Swiss cultural sector in many disciplines. This is true for management and artistic leadership positions as well as for the visibility of women on stage and in exhibitions. These are the findings of a preliminary study by the Center for Gender Studies at Basel University published today. The study presents new statistics for gender relations in the disciplines of performing arts, music, literature and visual arts.
In 2020, Pro Helvetia supported over 1600 art and cultural projects across Switzerland. Supporting Swiss artistic creation in all its diversity and ensuring its dissemination across Switzerland’s different language regions, both on the basis of applications, are Pro Helvetia’s core activities. The Arts Council is also committed to giving new impetus to cultural life and to supporting projects of national significance.
