TITLE Director of Administration DEPARTMENT Administration REPORTS TO Executive Director STATUS Full-time, Exempt SALARY RANGE Highly competitive compensation, commensurate with experience and qualifications BENEFITS Subsidized medical/dental insurance (also for dependents), life insurance, annuity plan, paid leave, TransitChek, Credit Union membership and other statutory benefits; great office location in downtown Manhattan (SoHo) DEADLINE February 19, 2002 The New York Foundation for the Arts seeks a Director of Administration to be responsible for the internal operations and day-to-day management of the organization and for overseeing the implementation of the policies and programs of NYFA Responsibilities * Work with Executive Director on all operational needs, Board governance matters and special projects. * Work with the Board of Trustees, Executive Director and staff to manage short- and long-term institutional planning and implementation. * Inform the Board of Trustees about management issues. * Advise the Executive Director on impact of all operational changes. * Work with Board committees providing materials and research when directed and coordinating interaction between committees. * Coordinate with Senior Staff on all operational systems. * Work with staff and Board on the development and review of new program initiatives including space needs and earned income efforts, when appropriate. * Manage technology planning and implementation and website development. * Develop and review all contracts. * Oversee professional development reviews for all staff in conjunction with Human Resources staff. * Supervise administrative staff including other managers for operations and budget. * Other responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications and Characteristics * Minimum ten years of experience combining superior financial, analytic and technological skills. * Bachelor''s degree required, other academic training or comparable education experience a plus. * Demonstrated hands-on knowledge of the day-to-day management of non-profit and/or an arts organization. * Thorough understanding of technology issues related to management, including databases and networks. * Experience in human resources a plus. * Ability to manage many different and separate tasks simultaneously. * Ability to communicate ideas, both in written form and orally. * Work in a team environment. * Ability to contribute to the broader management of an organization is essential. * Good working knowledge of fiscal management is vital. * Proven manager with an ability to communicate responsibilities to staff and to take responsibility for its performance. A high-energy problem-solver with a strong work ethic who is flexible, possesses a sense of humor, and who is comfortable in a busy, active and growing institution will be successful in this position. Nonprofit experience and an interest in the arts and small to mid-size arts organizations and individual artists'' issues are desirable.
