The award-winning Hinsdale Center for the Arts seeks a highly qualified arts leader to continue its growth and success as a major local arts agency and regional arts institution. Job Summary The Executive Director, serving as the chief administrative officer, oversees, directs, and assures high quality in all operations and functions of the Hinsdale Center for the Arts in accordance with the bylaws and policies set by the Board of Directors. He/She reports to the HCA Board of Directors and works with the Board to develop vision, direction, and resources for the organization. The Executive Director conducts long-range and short-range planning, and initiates and directs through staff, faculty, and volunteers all HCA programs, exhibits, activities, services, and operations. He/she directs a full and part-time staff and faculty of 60 persons; develops and administers and annual budget of approximately $1 million and is accountable for all financial and legal compliance and reporting for the not-for-profit corporation. The executive director oversees all resource development and grant writing. The executive director provides conceptual leadership and local and state-wide community leadership advocacy for HCA through specialized knowledge in the arts and arts administration. He/She builds relationships with all constituents and sectors that affect or are served by HCA including artists, arts organizations, business, government, education, media, HCA members, donors and program users, and serves as the chief spokesperson for the organization. The executive director understands and continually strengthens the role of the HCA as an award-winning local arts agency and an Established Regional Arts Institution, as designated by the Illinois Arts Council. Education Qualifications Advanced degree preferred, or equivalent experience in arts administration. Bachelor''s degree required. Experience Qualifications Strong conceptual and leadership abilities with an entrepreneurial focus. A minimum of 7 years in progressively responsible management positions in an arts center, fine arts school, local arts agency or council, or museum. At least 3 years as chief administrator of a similar not for profit arts organization. Strong experience and successful track record in developing public programming in visual and performing arts. Experience in the management of both visual arts exhibitions and visitor-oriented facilities. Demonstrated experience and success in development, marketing, and public relations required. Must possess basic understanding and skills in human resources administration, employee relations, and board relations. Broad knowledge of arts education, arts industry, and local arts agency professional standards required. The Hinsdale Center for the Arts, winner of the 1999 Governor''s Award for the Arts is a 501 ( c) 3 not-for-profit, regional arts center and local arts agency serving the west suburban Chicagoland region. Last year HCA served more than 131,000 people of all ages and abilities and 872 artists through year-round art exhibitions, classes in music, art, dance, theater, and literary arts, individual music lessons, workshops, festivals, summer multi-arts camp for children, outreach programs, technical assistance to arts organizations and artists. The HCA''s Community Arts Access regranting program supports arts programs in schools and organizations throughout the western Cook and DuPage County region. The Hinsdale Center for the Arts was founded in 1980 and was designated in 1996 by the Illinois Arts Council as an "Established Regional Arts Institution," one of only three arts organizations in Chicago''s western suburbs to receive this honor, and one of only forty-four arts organizations statewide to be designated. The HCA is supported by contributions from corporations and individuals, grants from foundations and the Illinois Arts Council, earned revenues from classes and operations, and proceeds from annual fundraising events.
