HKADC appoints new Chairman and Vice-Chairman

The Hong Kong government has recently announced the appointment of Darwin Chen and Dr Peter Wong King-keung as Chairman and Vice-chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC), from July 1, 2002 to December 31, 2004. Mr Chen, who will replace Dr. Patrick Ho Chi Ping (appointed Secretary of Home Affairs), has pledged to continue to develop the social functions of the arts, as outlined in the 'Three Year Plan 2001-2004' of the Council. This includes the 'expansion of the market for the arts, promoting life arts education and enhancing the artistic level and social status of artists.' During his 32 years in the civil service, Mr Chen, has served as Director of Cultural Services, Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing, Deputy Director for Constitutional Affairs, and has a notable history of arts sector involvement. Dr Wong, is one of the founders of the University of East Asia, and currently serves as Council member of the University of Macau and the Macau Asia International Open University.
