The Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) has recently developed a partnership with the government Labour Department to organise a youth work experience and training scheme in the arts and creative industry. According to the ADC, the primary goal of the scheme is to provide training opportunities to enhance the employment potential of youth as well as to attract new emerging talent into the industry. The scheme is available to unemployed young people between the age of 15 and 24 with education attainment below degree level. Whilst with an employer they will receive a 6-12 months on-the-job training with a monthly salary not less than $4,000. A monthly training subsidy of $2,000, will be offered to the employer from the Labour Department. It is the hope of the ADC, that upon satisfactory performance, employers may consider continuing the employment of the trainees. At the present date, the scheme has received more than 14,000 applications, with some youths already completing a 40-hour induction course and having been offered suitable placements. Around 100 positions are on offer in fields such as stage and audio-visual program production, media and publication, marketing/promotion and sales, and management.
