Edwin R Harvey, the UNESCO Chair of Cultural Rights, has published a book entitled Financiación de la cultura de las artes (Financing Culture and the Arts).

The publication is written in Spanish, and concerns Harvey’s experience as a university academic and as an international consultant on the financing of culture and the arts. During his entire professional life, Harvey has been connected with the creation and function of arts councils and the funding of culture in Latin American countries such as Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, El Salvador and in particular the National Art Fund of Argentina, for which he was the legal council (1958-1974) and president (1983-1989).

The book includes a general panorama of the funds and specialised endowments for the financing of culture and the arts, the funding systems, heritage, cultural action of central banks, international cultural financing organisms, adjudication systems for grants and loans for cultural and artistic activity, fiscal cultural policy, special resources (Lotteries etc.), comparing this panorama with those of other countries in other regions such as North America and Europe.

The book will help bring understanding to the current situation for the financing of culture and the arts for all Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries of Latin America. For further information, email [email protected].
