The construction of 13 new children’s libraries will commence this week in different municipalities across Colombia, thanks to financial assistance from the Japanese Government. ‘We have signed 13 project contracts for the construction of children’s libraries. With these projects, 191 million children will benefit,’ said Wataru Hayashi, Japanese Ambassador to Colombia. The Japanese donation (the equivalent of US$1 million) will allow construction of the libraries, the Colombian Government to facilitate their stocking, and mayoral representatives to cover additional running costs once erected. ‘The Japanese Government, in a very generous manner, has provided the physical structure of the libraries, that will have over 200 square metres of gardens, reading rooms and a virtual library,’ said Colombian Minister for Culture, María Consuelo Araujo. The libraries are scheduled for completion in April next year. For further information, CLICK HERE.
