28 September 2004, Colombia

A new project that aims to strengthen Colombia’s audiovisual heritage has been unveiled. Strengthening Colombian Audiovisual Heritage was announced yesterday. The project includes an awareness campaign, the development of a comprehensive audiovisual inventory and restoration efforts on existing materials in danger of decay. The plans are designed to promote understanding of Colombian Audiovisual Heritage and build on the efforts of working Colombian Audiovisual archivists and archival groups. Ultimately, a catalogue of Colombian feature films and videos from 1915-2004 will be created, to support the activities of the First Colombian Audiovisual Heritage Meeting in association with the Caribbean Film Foundation library. Documentation containing basic requirements for the preservation of Colombia’s audiovisual heritage will also be created, along with priorities for the acquisition of materials, taking into account cultural and artistic merits.
