Vietnamese Politburo member, Nguyen Khoa Diem, head of the Party Central Committee’s Ideological and Cultural Department, recently urged artists and arts organisations to make culture part of social development. Speaking at a conference on literature and arts in Ha Noi, Diem stated that artists should be making more original works, devising sound theories and art practices, and making culture increasingly important in the social life of Vietnam. Diem said that these strategies are especially important during the globalisation of culture. The conference included a discussion for ideas for a draft political report to be submitted to the 10th Party Congress, focusing on bulding advanced culture and preserving national identity.
