Dance Manifesto

Dance UK,
24 March 2006, England

Dance UK and the National Campaign for the Arts are calling all dancers and dance organisations to submit their views about the first draft of the Dance Manifesto which will be available from the 27 March 2006. The Manifesto offers a real opportunity to change the way that Government thinks about dance. It is vital that this document both unites and truly represents the sector. A copy of the first draft of the Manifesto is available on the Dance UK website - see Dance Manifesto.
The UK's dance sector is currently flourishing, with public enthusiasm for the art form at an all-time high. However, despite this increasing popularity, dancers and dance organisations often face great hardships. These difficulties vary from the levels of pay for dance professionals to the barriers still preventing many children from accessing dance. The manifesto can raise the profile of these and other issues with government and focus attention on how to change legislation to create the conditions that dance needs to flourish.
