The Arts Council of Wales (ACW), together with the Performing Rights Society Foundation (PRSF), are to launch a new scheme promoting musical composition for dance. The launch will take place at the Welsh Assembly Government Pavilion at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod. To run for three years, the Scheme aims to bring new music and dance to the attention of a new audience, and encouraged collaborative creativity between composers, choreographers and dancers. ‘The focus on Music for Dance gives composers a fascinating challenge which we hope will inspire some exciting and lasting new music’, said Einion Dafydd, ACW’s Senior Music Officer. ‘The scheme also has a great legacy value in that copies of musical scores will be deposited at the Welsh Music Information Centre, housed at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.’ PRSF Foundation Manager, Charlotte Ray, said: ‘When a composer can work creatively with other art forms, right from the start of the artistic process, extraordinary things can be achieved. The ACW/PRS Foundation Steps to New Music scheme aims to support dance projects that do just that and throws down a creative challenge to dance companies and composers alike. The initiative builds on the successful working relationship between PRSF and ACW and provides fresh opportunities and focus for new music and its creators in Wales.’ For more information, CLICK HERE
