It's free entry for all state-run museums across the nation starting from May 1st to the end of this year, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The free entry includes a total of 14 national museums including the National Museum of Korea and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul, all to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the founding of Republic of Korea this year.

The free entry is so far limited to permanent displays. Visitors will still have to pay for special exhibitions.

'Free entry to national museums was part of President Lee Myung-bak's election campaign,' an official from the culture ministry said. 'We hope more people come to enjoy the museum from now on.'
