Constitution of the Federal Culture Council

The Federal Culture Council, made up of the country’s highest people responsible for culture, chose, in its first resolution, San Juan as the venue for the Third Argentinean Culture Congress, 2010.

Salta and Mendoza were also appointed as venues for the respective provincial congresses and the next meeting of the Council was set for March 12 and 13 in Resistencia, Chaco. The project of a Federal Law for Culture and the subjects of the next Culture Congress will also be discussed.

The Federal Assembly, made up of provincial culture civil servants, restored, on December 15, the Federal Culture Council that had been abolished by the military dictatorship in 1978. The brand-new organism will be in charge of coordinating, planning, legislating and devising strategies on cultural activities throughout the national territory. It will also promote the creation of common spaces to include the provinces and the city of Buenos Aires.

The Council, made up of all the provinces’ culture secretaries, will meet at least twice a year and will re-elect its authorities annually. Its constitution establishes that the budget will be made up of contributions from the Nation’s Culture Secretariat; the provinces’ culture organisms and the city of Buenos Aires. Other official organisms’ and private sector representatives will also be able to participate.

The meeting was also attended by the Nation’s Culture Administration Sub-secretary, Pablo Wisznia; the Nation’s Head of Arts, Rolando Goldman; the Nation’s Head of Heritage and Museums, Maria de las Nieves Arias Incollá; the Head of Cultural Policy and International Cooperation, Alí Mustafá, and, Ilda Garcia, as representative of the Investment Federal Council.
