Meeting of Mercosur’s Ministers of Culture

Ministers of Culture gathered this morning at Hotel Guaraní to discuss the implementation of Mercosur Cultural’s seal, Mercosur Cultural’s projects report, and the cultural policy and legislation of Mercosur member states.

Meeting participants: Paulina Urrutia, Chile’s Culture Council’s Minister; Pablo Groux, Bolivia’s Minister of Culture; Ramiro Noruega, Ecuador’s Minister of Culture; Joao Luiz Silva Ferreira, Brazil’s Minister of Culture, and Ticio Escobar, Minister of the National Secretariat for Culture of our country.

Also present were Carlos Moneta from Argentina’s Ministry of Culture and Marcelo Dantas, Head of International Relations of Brazil’s Ministry of Culture.

In the previous meeting, which took place on December, 2008, the Ministers of Culture reasserted their willingness to make effective concrete actions for cultural integration, among which were highlighted the importance of implementing Mercosur Cultural’s seal, to promote the integration of productive chains of cultural goods and services, the participation of the region’s countries on international cultural fora that make an emphasis on the subject of cultural diversity and specially linguistic diversity, within the frame of reference of UNESCO’s Convention for the Promotion and Protection of Culture.
