Summit programme outline and more speakers announced

IFACCA and the National Arts Council of South Africa are pleased to announce that the outline of the Summit programme outline is now available at www.artsummit.org and that more speakers have been confirmed.

The programme gives a brief outline of the keynote, panel and roundtable sessions and other events that will be held in conjunction with the Summit – the Opening Ceremony, Arts Alive and the Summit dinner. The Hon. Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture, Alberta, Canada, (profiled below) has also been confirmed as a keynote speaker and joins other keynotes: Professor Njabulo S Ndebele, Dr Stojan Pelko, and Madeeha Gauhar.

The speakers for the panel session  on Wednesday 23 September will be Nkanta George Ufot, Acting Director, Ministry of Culture, Nigeria; Mercedes Giovinazza, Director, Interarts, Spain; Iman Auon, Artistic Director, Ashtar Theatre, Palestine

Mr. Lindsay  Blackett was elected to his first term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-North West on March 3, 2008. On March 12, 2008, he was appointed Minister of Culture and Community Spirit. Prior to his election as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta Mr. Blackett worked at Arrow Electronics as a technical sales representative. From 1979 to 1983 Mr. Blackett studied criminology and corrections at Carleton University in Ottawa. Mr. Blackett is an avid volunteer and is active in his community. In addition to coaching soccer and hockey, he volunteers with the following associations: Tuscany Community Association, director; Calgary-North West Constituency Association, director; Canadian Progress Club, president.
