The new Culture Secretary of Argentina, Jorge Coscia, is designating the new national director of his cabinet, while he decides who will be the two new Culture Undersecretaries, in Cultural Administration and Cultural Industries. The latter has been vacant for a year already.

Coscia named Mónica Guariglio as National Director of International Cooperation, who had been Head of Cabinet for Mercedes Marcó del Pont, Banco Nación’s President, and former General Director of Buenos Aires’ Museums. As Cultural Industries Director –for which Coscia has great expectations given his interest in creating a National Book Institute–Rodolfo Hamawi was selected, who replaces Carolina Bicquard, who had been appointed ten days before, and now will be in charge of a publishing project. Hamawi will take a decision in the next few days about Diego Marquis continuity as Director of Multimedia Production and Promotion.

José Castiñeira de Dios replaced Rolando Goldman as National Arts Director. María de las Nieves Arias, who was Heritage Director, was replaced by Alberto Petrina, who worked at the National Commission for Museums and Monuments.

It was made known yesterday, through trustworthy sources, that Coscia is considering three candidates for the vacant undersecretariats: Francisco Romero, Chaco’s Culture Undersecretary; María del Carmen Bianchi, President of the National Commission for Popular Libraries, and the actor Rubén Stella, former National Culture Secretary, whose administration was criticized in 2002.
