Cultural SMEs for the country's development

On 5 June,  the Division of Promotion of Cultural Industries of the Directorate General of Development and Diversity of the National Secretariat of Culture organized a workshop entitled "The importance of SMEs in the country's development".

The workshop was held on the premises of the National Archives in Asuncion, and was led by Ms. Veronica Rodriguez from the Division of the of Enterprises (SUAE), Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC).

The Director of the Division of Promotion of Cultural Industries  Victoria Figueredo, welcomed the participants, thirty officials and cultural promoters from different parts of the country. She stressed the importance of SMEs in contributing to the formation and strengthening of democracy, and producing income and jobs creation. "The SMEs are the heart of the cultural industry," said the director, reminding that currently there is a boom of small and medium industry.

Ms. Veronica Rodriguez of the MIC, spoke about the general characteristics of SMEs, the twenty-first century economy, the conceptual framework of the same and a diagnosis of SMEs, as well as characterized the main challenges and difficulties for optimal development of small and medium enterprises.

Rodriguez indicated that the MIC is trying to establish a program to promote cultural SMEs.
