Paraguay Coalition disseminates its Report on Cultural Rights in Paraguay

La Coalición para la Diversidad Cultural ,
25 January 2013, Paraguay

The Paraguayan Coalition for Cultural Diversity is comprised of 13 associations of the cultural sector. It looks at the government actions in the years preceding and following the impeachment of President Fernando Lugo in June 2012. Among the 18 recommendations made by the Coalition, it shows the need for a national campaign to inform about the cultural rights that Paraguay attained through the ratification of the Convention on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, the United Nations Declaration on the rights of indigenous peoples and their own National Culture Law (2006). It further proposed to contribute to the strengthening of professional associations and reactivating the National Cultural Council with representation from different sectors and consultative groups. Finally, the Coalition shows the need for public policy design and implementation of a national culture plan of promoting an equitable administration  that includes the demands of indigenous peoples and Afro-descendants. Moreover, the Coalition announced the formation of its new Board of Directors in December 2012.
