We are delighted to announce that the WorldCP profile for Algeria is now available at the WorldCP website: http://www.worldcp.org/algeria.php.
The profile has been written by Ammar Kessab [http://www.connectcp.org/profiles/profile.php?profileid=1233&lang=en] and Makhlouf Boukrouh. It has been edited by Rana Yazaji, founding member of Ettijahat Independent Culture, with the support of the European Cultural Foundation.
As for all WorldCP profiles, the report covers eight key areas of cultural policy:
- Historical perspective: cultural policies and instruments
- General objectives and principles of cultural policy
- Competence, decision-making and administration
- Current issues in cultural policy development and debate
- Main legal provisions in the cultural field
- Financing of culture
- Public institutions in cultural infrastructure
- Promoting creativity and participation
This structure mirrors exactly that developed over a decade by ERICarts [http://www.ericarts.org] and the Council of Europe [http://hub.coe.int/] in creating the Compendium of Cultural Policies and Trends in Europe [http://www.culturalpolicies.net]. The Compendium team has been fundamental in the development of the WorldCP project and we thank them for their ongoing support and guidance.
Ettijahat, as a regional editor, is contracted by Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy) to update and edit Cultural Policy profiles in collaboration with national cultural policy groups in a number of Arab countries that are working in the framework of Al Mawred's program to develop cultural policies in the Arab region. The program started in 2009 and is supported by the European Cultural Foundation, Mimeta, Open Society Foundations and the British Council.
