Interested in exploring the experiences of others an celebrating Manama as the hub of Arts, under the motto “ Our Year of Arts” during 12014, and convinced that the exhibition brings to the forefront the diversity of Mona Hatoum’s work over the last 30 years, H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Culture, accompanied by Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs and Bahrain Arts Society Honorary President, H.E Shaikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, in addition to a number of artists, attended the opening of Mona Hatoum Arab Exhibition of Modern Art in Qatar.
The Exhibition was inaugurated yesterday by Chairperson of Qatar Museums Authority, Shaikha El Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, which embraces 70 works under the title "Turbulence” . The exhibition is to continue from 7 February until May 18, 2014.
The Minister of Culture, said that this visit comes in the light of the Bahraini concern with Arts and celebrating Manama " Our Year of Arts," the reason why the delegation includes a number of Bahraini fine artists in order to exchange expertise and be briefed on the international experience.
H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, Minister of Culture, highlighted that Art is the language of heart manifested in beauty and creative masterpieces, for painting and sculpture will ensure transferring a lot of feelings and thoughts, of which makes the art, in particular, a universal communication language and a key to the dialogue of civilizations.
It is worth to mention that Mona Hatoum is a world-famous artist, who’s pieces are concerned with confrontational themes such as violence, oppression and voyeurism, often in reference to the human body. Conflict arises from the juxtaposition of opposites such as beauty and horror, desire and revulsion. Until 1988 Hatoum worked mainly with video and performance. Her solo exhibitions have been featured at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (1994), the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (1997), the New Museum of Contemporary Art and MoMA, New York (1998), the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh (1998), the Castello di Rivoli, Turin (1999), the Tate Britain, London (2000), Hamburger Kunsthalle, Kunstmuseum Bonn, and Magasin 3, Stockholm (2004), and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (2005). artist Mona Hatoum has received the University of Copenhagen's Sonning Prize on April 23, 2004, the first of its audiovisual arts specialist to be awarded. Generally, it goes to someone who's worked to forward and explore European culture.
