Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the non-governmental organization which is Representative of the Republic of Moldova of the Council for Research and International Exchanges „IREX” (AO IREX Moldova) signed today, on October 9, 2015, the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of modernizing public libraries for children from the country. The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Culture Monica Babuc and director of IREX Moldova, Evan Tracz.
The purpose of the Memorandum is to support the development of an ongoing partnership between Ministry of Culture and AO IREX Moldova, making an effort to provide opportunities for public librarians in developing the necessary skills to implement library innovative services and new technologies for children and youth.
According to this document, the parties will support the development of public libraries, librarians and services from the library for children in the Republic of Moldova by providing children's libraries with new technologies, to ensure young people's access to information and educational programs, as well as cooperation in the process of creating modules of training for professional development of librarians from the Republic of Moldova in the domain of new technologies and innovative services in libraries for children.
To support these efforts at the National Library for Children "Ion Creangă" will be created a center of excellence and training to support, develop and promote new technologies and innovative services of library for children at national level and for training librarians to implement new services and modernization of children's libraries. The center will be focused primarily on the professional development of librarians for children, by developing a relevant curriculum, leader’s development and elaboration of a strategic plan that will provide sustainability of the activities.
Also, the Memorandum foresees the support and strengthen of children's libraries from the country, increasing support from local authorities and communities in the implementation of initiatives to modernize libraries for children.
We remind that, on October 6, under the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of monitoring of the impact and management of statistical information in public libraries, signed on May 15, 2015 between Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova the non-governmental organization which is Representative of the Republic of Moldova of the Council for Research and International Exchanges „IREX” (AO IREX Moldova), was opened the Center of Statistical Research and Development, that will realize the first on-line technological process by the network of public libraries from the country.
