ACORNS 355: Arts & Culture creating a more inclusive and equitable world

IFACCA - International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies,
09 December 2016, International

Saturday 3 December marked the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), which coincided with the 10-year anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, and took as its theme the recently-adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the their role in creating a more inclusive and equitable world for people with disabilities.

In the last week, there have been many interesting articles and publications that highlight the part played by the arts and culture in working towards this future: the Asia-Europe Foundation have released a new report by Jordi Baltà Portolés which looks at existing policies, programmes and projects in the field of culture and disability, Culture & Disability: Policies & Practices in Asia and Europe; Arts Council England published A Balancing Act, a case study of its flagship programme for disabled artists and disability arts - Unlimited - which explores the partnerships behind the project and its success; and on Wednesday the Australia Council for the Arts launched its new Disability Action Plan, which includes goals for accessibility, leadership and arts practice. You can find these reports, and other news stories related to disability within our themes portal

No doubt there are other great examples from the sector out there, so if you have resources or news stories that should be shared with the IFACCA network, send your suggestions to [email protected].
