Arts Council Malta and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ together with 89.7 Bay have launched a new programme to inspire and support the development of young artists. The programme, called ARTIVISTI, is a new programme that will identify some of the best young talent across the arts and provide them with the necessary training, mentoring and networking to develop further their creative potential.

In his opening address during the launch of programme at the ŻfinMalta studios, Minister for Culture Dr Owen Bonnici said that ‘this programme builds on the achievements of previous years and it will tap into a nourishing pool of outstanding talent and help achieve the highest quality targets’.

Selected artists will be awarded a package of benefits and opportunities for a year. These include a grant of €2,000 for their personal creative development, the services of a professional mentor to support them in their artistic career, participation in an artist-in-residency and networking opportunities with other ‘Artivisti’. They will also become members of the Artivisti alumni community to support other upcoming artists in the forthcoming editions of the programme. 89.7 Bay, being the ideal partner for this project due to its strong reach and involvement with today’s youth, will also be promoting the selected artists and updating its listeners with the work of the Artivisti.

‘The programme is an addition to Arts Council Malta’s community exchange portfolio designed to provide young movers and shakers in the arts with the opportunity to unleash their full potential and be the inspiration in the creative sectors’, said Albert Marshall, Executive Chairman of Arts Council Malta.

The collaboration between Arts Council Malta and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ bridges together the implementation of the National Youth Policy and the Council’s Create2020 Strategy, with a particular focus on providing more opportunities for people to engage in creativity

Artivisti accompanies other empowerment programmes by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ such as Taħziz, Divergent Thinkers, and music training for young bandisti, which the Agency has been offering for the past years giving young people further opportunities in the arts.

Dr. Clifton Grima, Parliamentary Secretary for Youths, Sports and Voluntary Organisations welcomed the collaboration between the two public entities and 89.7 Bay. ‘Artivisti will provide a space for young people to challenge peers and communicate the significance of their creative expression to the wider community. Year after year, these Artivisti will create a legacy of creative works from the younger generations’.

In her concluding remarks, Miriam Teuma, Executive Director of Aġenzija Żgħażagħ encouraged artists aged between 16 and 25 who show outstanding talent, passion for the arts and commitment, to submit a nomination. ‘We await nominations of prospective Artivisti with enthusiasm: these young people will be the face of the initiative, the life and soul of the Artivisti programme,.
