Chair Fund Board of Trustees Chairman Remarks at the CultureACTIONs Agreement Signing Ceremony

Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust,
12 July 2017, Zimbabwe

My task this morning is a simple one, to merely welcome all of you to the signing ceremony of the new agreement between the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe and the Embassy of Sweden in support of CultureACTIONs on Women Empowerment and Climate Change.

I am referring to this as a new agreementbecause in the last ten years, the Embassy of Swedish has partnered the Culture Fund in a number of development projects and programmes for the benefit of our country.

We are indeed gratified by this longstanding partnership and today’s ceremony is a manifestation of the excellent relationship between us. In this respect, I am pleased to recognise the presence of Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Sweden to ZimbabweSophia Calltorp, the Head of Development CooperationMaria Selin, alongside their colleagues from the Embassy.

On the part of Culture Fund, I am pleased to recognise Board of Trustees here present, the Executive Director who is also our master of ceremony and his entire team.

Let me take this opportunity to express the commitment of the board in fulfilling the expectations of this agreement in particular, as they relate to reduction of gender based violence, early child marriages, awareness on climate change as well as the result-oriented approaches in our programming.

Culture Fund carries the important responsibility of holding public funds in trust and managing their targeted use in a transparent, accountable and professional manner. The public demands that we show results and greater impact from our interventions. Zimbabwe is confronting challenges across many spheres. CultureACTIONs seeks to address some of these challenges and continue changing the lives of ordinary people across Zimbabwe.

Once again, with these remarks, I welcome you to this ceremony, and also extend my congratulations for a successful HIFA 2017 that the Culture Fund supported together with the European Union and the Embassy of Sweden.
