Protection of cultural heritage could be a lot better

Council for Culture, Netherlands,
30 September 2019, Netherlands

“The Netherlands Collection is by definition never finished. Not only the Rembrandts and Van Goghs of the past, but also the top pieces of today and the future are worth protecting. ” This is what the independent Pechtold commission stated when presenting an advice at the request of Minister Van Engelshoven (OCW). The advisory committee, set up by the Council for Culture, investigated the extent to which current legislation complies and whether the designation criteria for the list of protected heritage are still adequate.
