En 2020, la Secretaría de Cultura del Gobierno de México, a través de la Dirección General de Bibliotecas (DGB), redobló sus esfuerzos para continuar con la reactivación de la Red Nacional de Bibliotecas Públicas (RNBP). Para cumplir con esta meta, se incorporaron una serie de nuevas estrategias y herramientas que permitieron seguir brindando servicios bibliotecarios, a pesar del cierre temporal de recintos a causa de la contingencia por COVID-19 en las 32 entidades del país.
