The 6th General Assembly took place on Tuesday 18 October 2016 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior in Valletta, Malta. The meeting was chaired by Stephen Wainwright, Chair of the IFACCA Board, and included reports to members from the board , the Executive Director, and Arts Council Malta as the hosts of the 7th World Summit on Arts and Culture.
During the Assembly, members elected five board members for a term of four years. This included Rosemary Mangope (South Africa), Staffan Forssell (Sweden) and Orlaith McBride (Ireland), who stood for election following their previous appointments to fill casual vacancies; as well as two new members, Iván Petrella (Argentina) and Simon Brault (Canada). The board thanked outgoing board member Ambassador José Luis Martínez Hernández, Director General for International Affairs for the Secretaría de Cultura, Mexico, whose term concluded earlier in the year.
At the close of the meeting, Mr Wainwright announced that the 7th General Assembly will take place in March 2019, alongside the 8th World Summit on Arts and Culture, which will be hosted by the Department for Arts and Culture of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
