New initiative to provide digital access to Maltese musical heritage

Arts Council Malta,
17 May 2017, Malta

Arts Council Malta together with Għaqda Każini tal-Banda and the National Archives of Malta are launching an exciting initiative which aims to address and benefit band clubs in Malta and Gozo and provide digital access of Maltese musical heritage to the public.

In an effort to conserve, protect  and promote the rich heritage with which the band clubs are endowed in terms of significant musical and non-musical documentation, this initiative will be focusing on the digitisation and archiving of musical scores and other documents stored in the various band clubs. The digitisation programme primarily targets original composition/works by Maltese composers as well as works and compositions by foreign composers for Maltese Band Clubs archived in band clubs. The project will also include the digitisation of minutes, audiovisual records and other material in danger of loss or deterioration.

Arts Council Malta will be investing EUR90,000 over a three-year period in the digitisation programme that will be jointly managed by Għaqda Każini tal-Banda and the National Archives of Malta. Details about the scheme will be issued in the coming weeks together with information on the application process.
