Funding available for diverse community art projects in Auckland

08 August 2017, New Zealand

Creative New Zealand’s Auckland Diversity Project Fund, which supports arts development in the increasingly ethnically and culturally diverse Auckland region, is open for applications.

A partnership with community trust Foundation North, the project supports arts organisations that engage with Māori, Pacific and Asian communities in the Auckland region.

“Auckland is a diverse, vibrant and fast growing region. It’s important our investment services and operations deliver effectively to its rapidly changing demographics,” said Creative New Zealand Senior Manager, Arts Development, Cath Cardiff.

Creative New Zealand and Foundation North will jointly fund grants of up to $100,000 to support arts projects that increase the frequency of attendance and participation in the arts by Māori, Pacific and Asian audiences in the Auckland region. Projects that facilitate and support artform development for Māori, Pacific or Asian artists, audiences and communities are also eligible.

Foundation North has partnered with Creative New Zealand to offer the Auckland Diversity Project Fund since 2015.

“We are very proud to continue this partnership with Creative New Zealand, enabling increased participation in an incredibly varied range of artforms by Māori, Pacific and Asian artists and their audiences,” said Foundation North Chief Executive, Jennifer Gill.

Established arts organisations working in any artform that are Auckland-based or have a significant presence in the region are eligible. Priority will be given to high quality, innovative mid to large-scale projects with long-term community benefits, and those involving partnerships.

About the Auckland Diversity Project Fund

The Auckland Diversity Project Fund has supported 13 projects since 2015. Many have taken strong intercultural approaches, fostering connections and brokering conversations about identity, belonging and migration. In 2015-16 the project supported Auckland Arts Festival’s Whānui, five unique projects with community groups across the city. The focus of each was to make art accessible and part of everyday life for diverse audiences. In 2016-17 the project funded Dominion Rd the Musical, a theatre production reflecting Auckland’s diverse culture. It will premiere on August 9 at Playhouse Theatre in Glen Eden, Auckland.

Applications to the fund close at 5pm, 1 September 2017.
