Legacy Works: Transforming Memory Into Visual Art

The National Centre for Creative Aging ,
01 January 2000, USA

The National Centre for Creative Aging has announced the publication of a new Resource Guides for arts programming for older people. Legacy Works: Transforming Memory Into Visual Art, by Stephanie Golden with Susan Perlstein provides a comprehensive overview of this program that engages elders in reminiscences that they then transform into visual artwork. The program is particularly well-suited for frail and homebound elders because professional and volunteer caregivers (such as "friendly visitors" or home health aides) can implement Legacy Works one-on-one. The Legacy Works manual enables administrators and staff to set up and run Legacy Works programs with their own personnel and volunteers. It explains how to adapt Legacy Works to diverse situations, then takes readers step-by-step through the process of planning, implementation and evaluation. Included are many sample arts activities. The resouce is available for purchase from The National Centre for Creative Aging (NCCA), at $18 for non-members and $15 for members (US dollars). Order forms can be downloaded at: www.creativeaging.org/publications.html OR you can send a cheque payable to The National Centre for Creative Aging with the specifics of your order to: The National Centre for Creative Aging (NCCA) 138 South Oxford Street Brooklyn, NY USA 11217
