The Australia Council's fifth Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM) will draw a record number of first-time attendees this year, on top of the hundreds of return visits. This year, 50 producers and directors from across the globe will attend the market for the first time, including experimental performance curator Serge Laurent, from France, and Ellen Dennis, an Austrian-based American independent producer who has worked with performers including Mikhail Baryshnikov. Tanja Farman, responsible for producing the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games Cultural Program, is a delegate returning to the market this year. 'The work I have seen at previous markets has been exciting and dynamic, and I have presented a large number of [Australian] artists and companies in the UK in the past five years... I hope very much to build on this, since the presentation of Australian performing arts will continue to be one of my priority areas of interest,' she commented. Other attendees so far include: Fabien Audooren of International Staatheatherfestival (Belgium); David Sefton of UCLA Performing Arts (US); Jei Ping Tan of Friendship Theatre – Guandong Arts Centre (China) and Masaaki Kogas of Daidogei World Cup in Shizuoka (Japan). Both Australian and overseas delegates can still register to attend the market, which will be held in Adelaide, 25 February - 1 March 2002.
