Director, Collections and Services

State Library of Victoria,
22 February 2002, Australia

The State Library of Victoria is more than halfway through the largest library building redevelopment program in the nation, with major new facilities and its famous Domed Reading Room due to open over the next eighteen months. These will provide Victorians and others with world class facilities for state-of-the-art information services at the same time as it will meet proper standards for housing the Library’s significant collections. The State Library is also engaged in a renewal program designed to ensure its role as a leading cultural institution is enhanced. Its online services and training programs are increasingly popular across Victoria and far beyond and a stimulating program of events and exhibitions provides new opportunities for learning and discovery. At this pivotal time in the Library’s history, the Library Board of Victoria seeks to appoint a Director Collections and Services who will respond with vision and vigour to the challenges facing the Library as it seeks to marry its heritage with the online, multimedia world. Its collections and information services will continue to underpin much of the Library’s response to the world around it . The Director, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and State Librarian, will be responsible for the strategic oversight, delivery and coordination of information services and access to the collections – including online collections and resources, as well as to collection preservation, public programs and marketing. If you have significant management experience at a senior level, have appropriate tertiary qualifications, meet the requirements specified in the formal position statement and believe you are worthy of serious consideration.
