The New Jersey State Council of the Arts, a Division in the Department of State of New Jersey, seeks an extraordinarily well qualified arts administrator to fill the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director directs and administers all Council programs, operations and policies; and supervises a 22 - member professional staff and a budget currently standing at $21. This includes competitive grants, a host of cosponsored projects, and statewide arts leadership initiatives with special programs and emphasis on arts education, artist services, folks arts, community arts development, arts marketing, and art in public places. The Executive Director coordinates all activities of the Council, prepares all budgets and plans, manages federal and private funds, and monitors all grants, grant processes, and Council. The Executive Director represents the Council at official functions and professional associations and is a spokesperson to media and constituents. Qualifications The successful candidate will possess multiple, highly refined professional skills and knowledge achieved through formal education and extensive arts administration experience. Foremost among them are in-depth knowledge of the non-profit arts industry (particularly New Jersey''s) and a track record of success administering public or private sector arts programs. The successful candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of planning and budgeting, top-notch communication skills and exceptional interpersonal and management skills; the ability to supervise teamwork, work in partnership with diverse constituencies, coordinate complex evaluation processes, manage simultaneous workflows and maintain high levels of public service professionalism. Experience in government, particularly state government, is a plus. Education and Background Requirements A master''s degree in arts, public or business administration, or related field. Six years of professional work experience in an executive or high level managerial capacity with an arts organization or public agency, four of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity. Applicants possessing a bachelor''s field may substitute a bachelor''s degree with an additional year of work experience.
