The September Celebrations Committee of the Belize Ministry of Tourism and Culture has recently announced the theme for the 2002 celebrations to take place in Belize City. The Calendar of events for the celebrations is noted as reflecting a multitude of activities marking the 21st anniversary of Belize as an independent nation. A Cultural Gala will open the event, with the following festivities to include a performance by the Belize Dance Company and a night of Golden Performance of the Festival of the Arts. Chairman of the September Celebrations Committee, His Lordship David Fonesa, says 'we are pleased with the support we have received from various organisations and institutions' noting that the celebration 'promises to be filled with fun activities for the entire family as we celebrate our people, culture and Belize as a nation.' Meanwhile, some three hundred Belize children of the Port Loyola area will be participating in a summer library program to be held at the Port Loyola Library on Central American Boulevard this August. Supported by the Ministry of Human Development, Women and Children and Civil Society, the program will cater for children aged 5 to 14 years and will include arts and crafts, games reading and an educational field trip.
