The President of the Supreme Court of Sudan, Jalal Al-Din Mohamed Othman, recently led a delegation of his colleagues to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for talks. The delegation met with WIPO Director General, Dr Kamil Idris, as well as other senior officials, and was briefed on the organisation’s activities and the importance of intellectual property for wealth creation and development. According to a WIPO statement, the judges expressed appreciation for the intellectual property programs operating in Sudan, including WIPO's assistance for the recent establishment of a specialised court for disputes relating to trade and intellectual property – the first of its kind in the region. For his part, Dr Idris urged the delegation to take a more active role in promoting an ‘intellectual property consciousness’ and raising awareness of the importance of the field to development.
