Scottish Arts Council application process streamlined

The Scottish Arts Council has announced plans to streamline the funding application process, by decreasing the number of its committees to three: Performing Arts, Creative Arts and a Capital Committee. The Strategic Development committee, which oversees equality and access, will remain in place for another year, to ensure the absorption of its work into the other three committees. In addition, a number of consultative forums will be held annually across the country, so as to give the people of Scotland an opportunity to contribute to arts policy. Scottish Arts Council Director, Graham Berry, said that the new system – which will be phased in from April – would allow for the more efficient and effective operation of the council. ‘The resources freed up will allow us to spend more time supporting and developing new arts initiatives, rather than simply funding the arts,’ Berry commented.
