First meeting of the Interamerican Culture Commission

Earlier this month, 22 cultural delegates from the member countries of the Organization of American States (OEA) participated in the first meeting of the Interamerican Culture Commission in Mexico. The meeting was aimed at promoting initiatives concerning the improvement of governmental practices that preserve and promote cultural diversity and support policies in areas such as education and the cultural industries. Conclusions drawn from the meeting included commitments to: strengthen cooperation between Canada, Mexico and Honduras; develop cultural information systems for Central America, Andean countries, Mercosur (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay) and the Carribean community; and produce a feasibility study about the creation of an Interamerican observatory for cultural policy.
