Arts Council England today published Celebrating Disability Arts, marking the United Nations International Day of Disabled Persons. The book examines 30 years of pioneering work in the development of disability arts and is the Arts Council's key contribution to the European Year of Disabled People. Chronicling the struggle for public awareness of disability arts, the publication spotlights companies and individuals who have championed the cause and challenged discrimination. Peter Hewitt, Arts Council England's Chief Executive, said: 'We recognise the tremendous efforts the disabled community has made to develop disability arts over the past 30 years. The publication reflects the Arts Council's continued commitment to the disability arts sector and our desire to reflect the diversity of society and place the arts at the heart of national life.' The arts organisations profiled in the book are now regularly funded by the Arts Council. For further information, CLICK HERE.
