CEMAC arts organisations - this concerns you!

An initiative to compile a list of arts and culture organisations active in the CEMAC region (Cameroon, Chad, Equatorial Guinea, Rep. of Congo, Gabon and Central Africa) has been launched by the Collective Resources for the Arts and Talents Enrichment (CREATE). Mangong Peter Musa, CREATE Coordinator request leaders of arts and culture organisations within CEMAC to share the information with colleagues of such organisations who may not be aware about this initiative. The list shall be used to inform arts and culture organisations within CEMAC of INCD activities and ongoing campaigns for UNESCO member states in Africa to urge their governments to ratify the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions adopted by 148 UNESCO member states on 20th, October 2005. The list shall also be made available on the CREATE website in order to facilitate networking amongst art and culture organisations within the CEMAC region. This initiative is in line with the recommendations of the International Network for Cultural Diversity (INCD) 6th Annual Conference that took place in Dakar Senegal in November 2005 which stressed the need for: a. Africa to be united as a strong block to negotiate with other members of the network without complex b. Each country must have a close deadline to ratify the convention and fully put it into practice c. Developing considerably cutural industries by strenthening the actors' capacities d. Fighting efficiently piracy e. Promoting worldwide the INCD and the International Network for Cultural Policy (INCP), making them two inseparable networks, being able to preside over the destiny of humanity f. Preserving cultural goods and services from all factors of heaviness and blocking-up. Urging the World Trade Organization to revise its constraining policies towards these cultural goods and services. Organistions active in the arts and culture within the CEMAC region are therefore advised to furnish the following information before the 15th March, 2006 to the secretariat of CREATE by email; 1. Name of Institution, 2. Postal Address, 3. E-mail, 4. Fax, 5. Phone & 6. Website (if the organisation has one), 7. Type of organisation (for example museum, arts network, cultural association etc), 8. Status (for example public or private institution, NGO, research etc), 9. Founded in (year), 10. Activities (area of operations), 11. Chief Officer (name & function).
