Climate Change - The Role of the Arts

EFAH,
22 October 2006, England

A paper presented by Rose Fenton at the 15th EFAH Conference and Annual General Assembly, Warsaw, Poland in 2007:

'Climate change is the biggest challenge of the 21st Century. It raises profound issues of human rights and poverty. It offers huge challenges to our societies, not just as technical problems but as major tests of our capacity for collaboration and imagination. It calls for urgent and creative responses to build strong lines of communication, engagement and negotiation across the developed and developing worlds. The arts have a vital role to play here in rehearsing and fostering these qualities of inventive engagement, helping us imagine and bring into being a world beyond current energy usage in which the world’s resources are no longer taken for granted.'
