Arts Council welcomes Meryl Streep to drive regeneration in Belfast

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland welcomed Meryl Streep to Belfast on Saturday 18th August to endorse the new £16.5 million Old Museum Arts Centre, a purpose-built performing arts venue to be situated right at the heart of the city’s Cathedral Quarter.
Supported by the Arts Council, the Old Museum Arts Centre’s (OMAC) new arts facility is due to open summer 2011 has been planned to keep pace with the artistic expectations of a modern society; and designed to make a real contribution to the social, economic and cultural re-generation of Northern Ireland.
Rosemary Kelly, Chairman, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, said: “The Old Museum Arts Centre provides that vital ingredient of cutting edge drama, visual art, music and dance to the development of arts and culture in Northern Ireland. From the experience of other parts of the world involved in regeneration, its work and development is clearly an essential ingredient in boosting and revitalizing the heart of the city of Belfast.”
