The London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and its integral Cultural Olympiad represent a unique opportunity to make a real and lasting difference in Wales. This unique position is designed to seize and build on that opportunity. It will make a key contribution to the creation of an outstanding Cultural Olympiad spanning 2008 - 2012, across the whole of the United Kingdom.
Returning to de Coubertin's original vision for the modern Olympic Games, the successful bid for the London 2012 Games was founded on a fundamental union of culture and education to the core sporting proposition. The Cultural Olympiad seeks to implement that vision celebrating the UK's creative strengths and building even wider participation in the arts, heritage and culture.
This post will be pivotal in meeting Welsh and UK ambitions. It will lead on the curation and programming of many aspects of the Cultural Olympiad in Wales and also act as a regional contact of the London 2012 Culture, Ceremonies and Education Team.
