Arts and Disability website launched

Arts Council of Northern Ireland,
03 December 2007, Northern Ireland

International Day of Disabled People (Monday 3rd December) marks the launch of www.artsanddisability.com. This first all-Ireland website contains information, resources and facts about Arts and Disability and was initiated by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon.
The site is designed to be of practical use to anyone with an interest in arts and disability in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It showcases information for disabled artists, disability organisations, arts organizations and arts workers. In addition it will be useful for parents, families, advice workers and the wider community. www.artsanddisability.com includes a searchable directory and information about terminology and attitudes, legislation, improving access, disability equality training, support and funding.
Roisin McDonough, Chief Executive, Arts Council of Northern Ireland said: 'The quality of this Island’s arts and disability work deserved greater public awareness. Bringing together an all-Ireland resource about arts and disability into one valuable information source will be an inspiration to future artists.'
Mary Cloake, Director of the Arts Council said: 'The launch of the site marks the completion of a very successful joint venture by the two Arts Councils, North and South. We are very grateful to the members the arts and disability sector throughout the island, with whom we consulted to ensure the site content and design met the needs of users. Without their input, we could not have completed this task.'
