IFACCA board meets in Vancouver, Canada

IFACCA,
31 March 2010, Canada

On 5-6 March the IFACCA board met in Vancouver at the invitation of the Canada Council for the Arts. The meeting covered a number of key topics including:
• Strategic Plan 2011-2014:  Jonathan Katz, CEO of the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (USA), was invited to moderate a discussion on the Strategic Plan.  The board agreed to make a draft version available to members for comment in coming months with the final plan to be released by the end of the year. IFACCA thanks all those who responded to the IFACCA members’ survey and to the ACORNS survey or who submitted ideas for the plan in other ways.
• World Summits on Arts and Culture: The board discussed the outcomes of the 4th Summit held in Johannesburg last September and reviewed planning for the next two Summits. The Australia Council’s plans for the 5th Summit, to be held in Melbourne, Australia, on 3-6 October 2011, are progressing well and a new design and website will be launched in coming months. The board also discussed bids for the 6th Summit, to be held in 2014 and shortlisted proposals from five countries for further discussion.
• Advocacy research: The board discussed the final version of the research report, National arts advocacy campaigns: overview of case studies and good practice, recently commissioned by IFACCA and agreed that it be released during April. The board will also ensure that members have an opportunity to discuss arts advocacy during the regional chapter meetings that will occur in the coming year.
• Governance issues: the board also approved the audited financial report for 2009, the annual risk analysis, membership fees and research priorities.

Finally, the board accepted the kind invitation of the Spanish Ministry of Culture to hold its next meeting on 27-28 September in Madrid, Spain.
