Young Professionals

Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat,
29 June 2010, Fiji

In 2007, the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat implemented the Young Professionals programme, in recognition of the need to foster the development of young people with policy skills; scale up human resources; and strengthen policy mandates and the associated effective realisation of the Pacific Plan.

You could be one of the six Young Professionals we seek if you are no more than 30 years of age, and in the early stage of your career. You can also apply if you are a graduate holding public office in of our island member countries.

Candidates must speak and write in fluent English, be able to work fairly independently and demonstrate initiative and flexibility. A strong team-working capacity in a multi-cultural environment, familiarity with the standard features of word processing programmes and competency in MS Excel and HTML documents/web sites management would be an advantage for applicants.

Successful Young Professionals must have a degree in either trade, economics, law, development studies or accounting (or similar) and have an interest in prospering the region through the aspirations of the Pacific Plan. Their contribution to the policy work of the Forum Secretariat will be managed by relevant Advisers, with outputs including:

•research papers relevant to Pacific Plan and work programme priorities;
•successful management of relevant Ministerial meetings;
•successful in-country consultations; and
•other duties as required.
