IFACCA participates in Pacific Consultation on Cultural Industries

IFACCA,
16 December 2010, Fiji

IFACCA’s General Manager, Karilyn Brown, last week attended the inaugural Pacific Regional Consultation on Cultural Industries which brought together delegates from around the Pacific to discuss policies to promote their cultural industries for enhanced sustainable development and economic well-being.

Hosted by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) and held in Suva, Fiji on 6-9 December, the consultation – the first of its kind in the Pacific region – was the second step in the ‘Structuring the Cultural Sector for Improved Human Development’ project, funded by the European Community.

Drawing on the recommendations of a recently commissioned situation analysis of the cultural industries in the Pacific, SPC will now develop a regional strategy and program of training workshops to build the marketing and promotions capacity of cultural producers and entrepreneurs for implementation during 2011.

Meeting participants were introduced to the range of information and research resources available through IFACCA, including a briefing on the 5th World Summit to take place in Melbourne on 3-6 October 2011.
