Laura Chinchilla Miranda, Costa Rica’s President, held a meeting with the Ministers of Culture of Central America and the Caribbean where Álvaro Marchesi, OEI’s General Secretary, was also present.

The President arrived to the installations at the Museo de Arte Costarricense to congratulate the heads of culture of Central America and the Caribbean for signing an agreement that aims to identify, reactivate and value the historical heritage and the cultural legacy of the Caribbean Coast.

The Presidency of the Republic will back this initiative that was originally proposed by Manuel Obregón, Costa Rica’s Ministry of Culture.

“I congratulate this team for its great effort. We see this project with great hope, at a moment in which divisions between Central American peoples are rising due to political matters and governmental decisions. We view favourably that culture is building bridges between Central American peoples”, stated the President who added that despite budget restrictions, her Government will continue supporting cultural initiatives such as this.

Later on, the President attended the Arts Concert that took place at the esplanade of the Museo de Arte Costarricense.
