Inauguration of the National Culture Encounter

Heads and delegates of culture of 31 states and the Federal District and Consuelo Sáizar, Conaculta’s President were present at the National Culture Encounter, that was inaugurated by Leonel Godoy, Governor of the state of Michoacán, and that took place at Clavijero Cultural Center.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Michoacán’s Culture Secretary, Jaime Hernández Diaz; Morelia’s Municipal President, Fausto Vallejo Figueroa; Conaculta’s Culture and Arts Secretary, Fernando Serrano Migallón; Conaculta’s Executive Secretary, Raúl Arenzana; the Director of Cultural Engagement and State’s Liaison, Susana Phelts Ramos; the members of the Chamber of Deputies’ Culture Commission; and the delegates of the Culture Secretaries and Institutes of the country. 

Consuelo Sáizar, Conaculta’s President, talked about Mexico’s cultural policy for the 21st century: “Its purpose will be that of converting Mexico into the most important intellectual and cultural platform of Spanish language. The most significant ideas, the most advanced and contemporary aesthetic proposals, our authentic and dynamic traditions should be discussed, seen and heard. To make this purpose tangible all government levels should work closely”.

At Conaculta, pointed out Consuelo Sáizar, “we consider of great importance to bring regional and universal culture within society’s reach. We are interested in opening to the world and in being one of the main destinations for cultural tourism in the world, in line with the principles of diversity, openness and respect to all the expressions and point of views of the regions and states, which are inescapable conditions of the democracy we live in”.

The National Culture Encounter will take place all day today and tomorrow morning.
