The #culturalvalue Initiative

The #culturalvalue Initiative,
14 February 2013, International

The #culturalvalue Initiative is a blog and online resource curated by Dr Eleonora Belfiore of the University of Warwick.

It aims to provide a platform for exploration and discussion of 'cultural value' for researchers, cultural administrators, creative practitioners, policy makers, the general public and all those who believe that we need a refreshed debate on the place of the arts and culture in society which does not rely on economic value as a proxy for cultural value.

The blog is one of the developments following the 'Making Culture Count: Rethinking Measures of Cultural Vitality, Well-being and Citizenship' conference held on 2-4 May 2012 in Melbourne, Australia. From informal conversations during the conference and follow up discussions with colleagues and contacts it soon became apparent that there is a genuine thirst within the cultural policy field for a space for international, collaborative, critical, radical, cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral explorations of cultural value. The Cultural Value Network project is the result of these exchanges and aims to address this need for opportunities to develop and share new ideas on value.

The conference was a joint venture of the Cultural Development Network and the Centre for Cultural Partnerships, Victorian College of the Arts and Music, University of Melbourne. The full programme as well as slides, audio and video recordings of the conference papers can be found here.
